RNLI CLEETHORPES
Construction works have commenced on a new facility for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in Cleethorpes. The new lifeboat station will replace the two existing facilities on Central Promenade, providing a new two-storey building with an integrated boat hall, workshop, shop, changing rooms and office facilities.
The new station will be built on the beach in front of the existing station and will provide the capability to house a second lifeboat, a B Class Atlantic 85, which will join the existing D-Class lifeboat.
The new slipway will allow immediate launch of lifeboats from the boat hall directly to the water, eliminating the need to cross a public road which is the current procedure, saving crucial time. Allowing faster response times, in a wider range of weather conditions, to a larger variety of incidents while keeping its volunteers safer.
With over 3.4 million visitors each year, Cleethorpes is a popular seaside destination. The new facility be a key landmark on the seafront for years to come.
BGA architects are privileged to be working with such a worthwhile organisation such as the RNLI helping them to deliver this life saving project.
BGA Architects have helped the RNLI develop the scheme following planning permission being obtained (by others) in 2014.
Steve Randall, Estates Engineer for the RNLI, said: “This new lifeboat station will be an asset to the resort of Cleethorpes, as well as enabling our volunteer crew to operate more effectively and safely, overall providing a better lifesaving service to the area.”
